A Filmakademie BW and Trixter collab @FMX 2019

Volker Helzle, Head of Research and Development at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and Thomas Knop, Head of Studio Trixter Germany, in an interview at FMX 2019 about REAL-TIME LOOK DEVELOPMENT in Katana with VPET. Check it out!

Trixter and Animationsinstitut of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg are collaborating to explore next generation real-time workflows for look development. The presented prototype utilizes the industry standard tool for lighting and look development in Animation and VFX productions: Katana by Foundry. The Filmakademie Virtual Production Editing Tools (VPET) are utilized to stream a lightweight version to a mobile client for collaborative interaction. Changes to lighting and setup of the scene are synchronized to the Katana scene and rendered in real-time using Redshift. Trixter contributed a real production asset from one of their recent movie Jim Button.

Trixter: Thomas Knop, Andreas Schuster

MITMALFILM @Animation Sans Frontières!

This is something for your kids everybody! The very creative idea of MITMALFILM (free translation co-painting-film) by Uli Seis was founded during ASF in 2017/18. How it works? You take a coloring template and start drawing, the finished work has to be scanned then with an app and from then on, it’s gonna be an animation film! This is so genius that the MDM Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung is now supporting it. Congrats!

For the next ASF you can still submit your work until the end of the month May 31st http://animationsansfrontieres.eu/

Yesterdays HEROES Workshop "Tracking in Nuke with KeenTools"

The AMCRS and Design Offices Stuttgart hosted this killer workshop with KeenTools yesterday for our members and the hands-on event was well visited and appreciated! Thanks again for participating!

For all interested people this is what KeenTools is about, check them out:

KeenTools is a suite of tracking-related plugins for Nuke. The main goal is to make tracking as easy as possible, ultimately not requiring any work at all. At the moment the main plugin of the suit is GeoTracker — a tool for tracking of rigid and deformable 3D models. With FaceBuilder you can create a precise 3D model of human head and face based on a couple of photos of an actor or even on just a single frame of a footage where you want to track that face or head later. To track head and face models you can use either GeoTracker (head tracking), or FaceTracker which lets you track facial gestures. They have a number of helper plugins as well: ReadRiggedGeo — importing deformable 3D models into Nuke, TextureBuilder — creating textures of tracked (or "pinned") objects, and PinTool — placing 3D models on a footage (e.g. "manual" tracking).

Women in Animation - we need you!

We are very proud and pleased with the outcome of last weeks WOMEN IN ANIMATION PANEL during the FMX 2019! The discussion hopefully threw some light onto the underdeveloped situation of women in the Animation and VFX Industry, where they are still a minor and underpaid. Annegret Richter, CEO of AG Animationsfilm, and a couple of other successful women want to build an Initiative inspired by the “Women in Animation in America”. First step is to get feedback in to actually tackle the right problems, so it is up to you now to help them get this great project rolling and they would love your support by filling out this survey!
